Christmas is everyone’s favorite time throughout the year. Decorating your house inside and out might have always been your family tradition. Through the years some people might have learned some decorating don’ts the hard way. There are some things you should never do when putting up your outside Christmas decorations:
Don’t start decorating without a plan. Think through on how your Christmas display is going to be presented. Make sure you have all the lights, garland, blowups, etc. that you need to make your vision come true. Don’t string the lights before testing them. Many time people got up on their house and started stringing lights and then realized some were burned out or did not work. Simply plug them in before beginning and this will save you some time.
Don’t risk your own safety, especially if you have a very steep roof. Just one slip and it will cost you a trip to the hospital or worse. Sometimes it’s a good idea to hire professionals to do this job. Don’t line sidewalks with lights unless they are held up by stands. Some did this once and one careless driver wiped out my entire strand. Don’t mix light colors. Either goes with all white or all red or green. Mixing lights can be a little to much for the eye to take.
Don’t toss the lights on trees and shrubs and expect them to look good. Put some effort into hanging so that they present well. Don’t mix blinking lights and constant on lights. Decide which way you are going to go; blinking or not blinking. If you try to mix them they will look odd from the street.
Don’t ignore burnouts or drooping lights. Over time your lights might burn out or come loose from your house. Fix them if they need it. Don’t leave your Christmas decorations up to long. By about couple of weeks after Christmas, all your decorations should be down and packed away. Don’t leave them up for your neighbors to complain.
